LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — Drivers on Route 222 are being warned to prepare for rolling delays this weekend as PennDOT crews fan out across a key Lancaster County corridor for a full day of line painting tied to a major pavement preservation project.
PennDOT announced that weather permitting, line painting will take place Sunday, January 11, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Route 222 between Mohler Church Road and Col. Howard Boulevard. The operation will use slow-moving mobile crews, triggering alternating lane closures in both directions, with work zones stretching up to two miles at a time.
Motorists are urged to stay alert and watch for construction vehicles as traffic is funneled through shifting lanes. PennDOT warned that delays are likely throughout the day as the mobile operation moves along the highway.
The work is part of a broader resurfacing and safety upgrade project that includes full-width milling, base repairs, concrete patching, guiderail updates, new pavement markings, and sign improvements on Route 222. The contract also covers construction of a new entrance to the northbound Route 222 weigh station between the Lancaster County line and the Adamstown and Knauers Exit in Berks County.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise is the general contractor on the $7,662,625 project. All work is expected to be completed by February 2, 2026.
With rolling lane closures set to sweep across one of the region’s busiest highways, motorists are strongly urged to plan ahead and monitor conditions before heading out.
