LANCASTER, PA — The Lancaster Stormers made significant adjustments to their bullpen over the weekend, highlighted by the departure of closer Ryley Gilliam, the return of veteran Cody Stashak, and the trade of right-hander Christian Scafidi. These moves mark a strategic shift in the team’s lineup as the season progresses.
Gilliam, who served as the Stormers closer since mid-May, had his contract purchased by los Acereros de Monclova (Steelworkers) of the Mexican League. He is the first player from the 2025 Lancaster roster to have his contract purchased. Gilliam leaves the club with impressive stats, including a 0.87 ERA over 12 appearances, 18 strikeouts across 10.1 innings, and five saves.
“Ryley pitched very well for us,” said Stormers manager Ross Peeples. “He has a great story behind him and has gotten a lot of interest from Major League organizations. Monclova came in with a good offer. We hope this is a step in the right direction where he can get back on track toward the big leagues.”
Replacing Gilliam is Cody Stashak, a former Minnesota Twins right-hander who briefly pitched for the Stormers in 2023. The New Jersey native brings a wealth of experience, having spent the past couple of years at Class AAA Sacramento and most recently playing in the Mexican League with Campeche.
“Stashak is a veteran we had a couple of years ago, and he got picked up,” said Peeples. “He carries himself well and knows how to pitch. We’re thankful he is joining us.”
Additionally, the Stormers traded right-hander Christian Scafidi to the Trois Rivieres Aigles of the Frontier League for a player-to-be-named later. Scafidi, who recorded a 7.56 ERA across 12 appearances for Lancaster, will reunite with former Stormers player and pitching coach Jonathan Albaladejo in Trois Rivieres.
With these changes, the Stormers’ active roster now consists of 25 players. These moves spotlight the team’s effort to refine its lineup while fostering opportunities for player advancement across leagues.
