PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight lane closures will begin Monday, February 23, on Interstate 95 in Southwest Philadelphia as PennDOT launches the first phase of a multi-year rehabilitation of the Girard Point Bridge.
From February 23 through February 27, a single northbound lane will close nightly between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. A second northbound lane will close each night between midnight and 5:00 AM.
On February 26 and 27, similar overnight restrictions will affect southbound I-95 between Broad Street and Enterprise Avenue. Additional southbound lane closures are scheduled March 2 through March 6 during the same overnight hours, with a second lane closing between midnight and 5:00 AM.
No detours are planned, but drivers should expect delays and periodic backups through the work zone. Plan extra time if traveling through the area overnight and consider alternate routes such as I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) where appropriate.
The $261.5 million project will rehabilitate the 5,183-foot, double-decked Girard Point Bridge and surrounding approach structures, with work expected to continue through early 2031.
