Six-Figure Salary Draws Attention as Caernarvon Township Seeks New Officer

MORGANTOWN, PA — Caernarvon Township is seeking to hire a full-time certified police officer, offering a salary package that climbs above $106,000 and reflecting growing competition among departments to attract qualified law enforcement professionals.

The opening, announced by the Caernarvon Township Police Department, is for a full-time patrol officer working an 84-hour pay period on a rotating biweekly schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Under the 2026 pay scale, a probationary officer would earn $85,416.24, rising to $96,074.16 in the second year and topping out at $106,753.92 for a full-rate officer.

Department officials said the position centers on protecting the public and preserving the peace, with officers responsible for interpreting and enforcing federal, state, and local laws, as well as departmental policies and directives. The role requires officers to work independently under limited supervision and to adapt to a rotating shift schedule.

Applicants must already be certified under Pennsylvania’s Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission and possess an active Act 120 certification number. Additional requirements include U.S. citizenship, a minimum age of 21, a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and a clean criminal history, with no felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors. Prior military service, if applicable, must have ended under honorable conditions.

The hiring process will include interviews, a background investigation, and medical and psychological examinations. All hiring decisions are subject to the discretion of the chief of police.
