FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — The Silvi Foundation announced its launch as a nonprofit organization focused on supporting research into Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions.

As its first initiative, the foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases to support research on blood-based biomarkers aimed at improving early detection and diagnosis.

The foundation was created in honor of Larry Silvi Sr., founder of Silvi Materials, and his wife, Rose Silvi, both of whom had Alzheimer’s disease.

Joy Silvi, president of the Silvi Foundation, said the organization was formed to direct funding toward research into neurodegenerative conditions.

“We have witnessed firsthand the impact neurodegenerative disease has on patients and caregivers,” Silvi said. “Our goal is to direct funding toward rigorous research and innovative approaches that can accelerate discovery.”

The grant will support efforts to develop diagnostic tools that use blood-based biomarkers to identify risk for neurodegenerative diseases before symptoms appear.

Researchers at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases are studying biomarkers associated with conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.

The foundation said the funding will support laboratory equipment, research staff, biorepository development, and continued biomarker analysis.
