PHILADELPHIA, PA & MINNEAPOLIS, MN — SEMCAP Food & Nutrition announced a $55 million investment in Good Culture, a fast-growing cultured dairy brand, marking a major vote of confidence in the resurgence of better-for-you dairy and the reinvention of a once-overlooked category.
The investment deepens a relationship that began in 2021, when SEMCAP Food & Nutrition first partnered with Good Culture as it set out to modernize cottage cheese with clean-label ingredients, high protein content, and contemporary branding. The latest funding positions SEMCAP alongside majority investor L Catterton to accelerate Good Culture’s growth, expand distribution across North America, and fuel new product innovation.
Jesse Merrill, co-founder and chief executive officer of Good Culture, said SEMCAP recognized early that a category long viewed as dated could be reimagined for modern consumers. He credited the firm with providing operational expertise and long-term partnership that helped transform the brand into a market leader.
SEMCAP officials said the investment reflects the firm’s broader strategy of backing category-defining food brands that demonstrate scalability, momentum, and alignment with evolving consumer health priorities. Good Culture’s portfolio of high-protein, cultured dairy products now reaches a broad and growing audience as shoppers increasingly seek simple ingredients and functional nutrition.
John Haugen, managing partner of SEMCAP Food & Nutrition, said the firm was drawn early to Good Culture’s ambition to revive a dormant category and its conviction that cottage cheese could be repositioned for today’s market. He said the additional capital underscores SEMCAP’s belief in the brand’s trajectory and its potential to deliver sustained growth and impact.
The $55 million investment comes as the cultured dairy segment gains renewed attention from consumers and investors alike, signaling that cottage cheese—once relegated to the margins of grocery coolers—may be entering a new era of relevance in the modern food landscape.
