Sallie Mae

NEWARK, DE — Sallie Mae (Nasdaq: SLM) announced it has expanded its graduate loan offerings for medical and dental students, aiming to provide financing options from the first year of school through clinical training and residency.

The company said the updated loan options expand credit eligibility for qualified borrowers and allow students to cover up to 100% of school-certified costs, including tuition, supplies, and living expenses.

According to Sallie Mae, the expanded offerings include multiple in-school repayment options, such as full deferment, interest-only payments, or fixed monthly payments during enrollment and the grace period.

The company said eligible medical students may receive an extended grace period of up to 96 months before full repayment begins, including 48 months during medical school and up to 48 months of deferment during residency. Eligible dental students may receive a 12-month grace period after graduation and up to 48 months of deferment during residency.

“The federal student loan landscape is evolving and graduate students are looking for a trusted, reliable partner who understands their unique needs and can help them responsibly fund their education,” said Patrick Freeman, senior vice president at Sallie Mae.

In addition to loan products, the company said it offers scholarship and planning resources, including a $5,000 graduate school scholarship awarded quarterly, the Scholly Scholarships platform to help students find funding opportunities, and the Bridging the Dream Scholarship for Graduate Students, which has awarded $500,000 since 2021 through a partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
