Sallie Launches Backpack Media Advertising Network

Business News

NEWARK, DE — Sallie said it launched Backpack Media, an advertising network designed to connect brands with student audiences across digital platforms during key stages of the education journey.

The company said the network provides brands with access to audiences that include Gen Z and Gen Alpha students and individuals involved in education-related purchasing decisions.

Backpack Media distributes advertising across Sallie’s owned properties, the open web and connected television platforms, according to the company.

Sallie said the network will be led by Marco Steinsieck, who was appointed managing vice president and head of advertising.

Steinsieck previously helped launch and expand the Sephora Media Network and earlier led the development of the Staples Media Network, the company said.

“Our focus at Backpack Media is intentionally grounded in trust, strong audience insights, and measurable outcomes,” Steinsieck said.

Sallie said the advertising network will also include several industry hires, including Munif Jaafar, who previously worked with Macy’s Media Network, Topher Balzan, formerly of Aperiam Ads, and Lindsey Blue, formerly with PubMatic.

Eric Barba, senior vice president at Sallie, said the new division expands the company’s efforts to connect brands with student audiences.

Barba said Sallie engages with a large share of college-bound students and maintains relationships with students throughout their college experience.
