Safety Upgrades Scheduled for Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia

Road construction

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of safety improvements along Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia as part of a $2.6 million project to enhance protections for Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) in the region.

The work, which includes pavement markings, speed cushions, and curb installations, will be carried out from Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 30, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM daily, with lane closures extending into weekends. The affected area spans both directions of Lehigh Avenue between Aramingo Avenue and Fairhill Street.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow additional travel time when passing through the work zone. PennDOT stresses that all planned activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted if necessary.

The project is managed by Kuharchik Construction, Inc., based in Exeter, Pennsylvania, and is being funded entirely through federal allocations. These upgrades aim to reduce serious injuries and fatal crashes along one of the city’s key thoroughfares.

PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution, follow detour signs, and prioritize safety while navigating the area during construction.
