COLUMBIA, PA — Drivers crossing the Susquehanna River next week should prepare for lane restrictions and possible slowdowns as PennDOT crews conduct a critical inspection of the Route 30 (Wrights Ferry) Bridge.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that the bridge spanning the river between Hellam Township in York County and Columbia Borough in Lancaster County will undergo inspection from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 18, through Friday, February 20, weather permitting.
During work hours, traffic on the heavily traveled span will be restricted to one direction at a time. The right lane and shoulder will be closed as inspectors evaluate the structure. Work will begin on the westbound side, carrying traffic from Lancaster County to York County, before shifting to the eastbound direction later in the week.
PennDOT officials said motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone. Drivers are urged to obey posted signs, reduce speeds, and remain alert for crews operating on and around the bridge.
The Wrights Ferry Bridge serves as a vital connector between York and Lancaster counties, carrying thousands of vehicles daily across one of the region’s most prominent river crossings.
Motorists planning to use Route 30 during inspection hours are strongly encouraged to check real-time traffic conditions and updates before heading out. For the latest alerts, closures, and detours, visit the MyChesCo Traffic Center at https://www.mychesco.com/traffic/.
