LOWER PROVIDENCE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Ridge Pike will be reduced to a single lane in each direction through January 2027 as major construction begins on a $26.2 million project to improve travel and safety at the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County.
Beginning Wednesday, October 29, Ridge Pike will remain narrowed to one lane in each direction, 24 hours a day, between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road. The lane reduction will stay in effect through the duration of the project. Drivers should expect heavy congestion and delays, especially during rush hours. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The start of this traffic pattern marks the completion of preliminary utility work and the beginning of Stage 1 construction. The project will realign and relocate the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection approximately 1,300 feet east of its current location, creating a new signalized intersection. A new Germantown Pike connector road will link Germantown Pike to Ridge Pike and extend southwest to Pechins Mill Road.
Additional improvements include a new roundabout connecting River Road and Germantown Pike, as well as widening Ridge Pike, adding turn lanes, and upgrading stormwater drainage systems. The overall project is designed to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for both commuters and local residents.
Allan Myers, Inc., of Worcester, Pennsylvania, is serving as the general contractor. The project is fully funded through federal transportation dollars.
