WILMINGTON, DE — Qnity Electronics Inc. (NYSE: Q) opened a 385,000-square-foot semiconductor manufacturing facility in Newark, Delaware, on March 11, expanding capacity to meet growing demand for advanced chip materials, the company announced.
The site includes a new production line for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) pads, components used to polish semiconductor wafers during fabrication.
Qnity said the expansion is part of a multi-year investment to increase domestic manufacturing capacity as demand rises from sectors such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and advanced connectivity.
“The expansion of Qnity’s domestic manufacturing footprint further strengthens our operational agility to meet ever-shifting customer needs,” said Chief Executive Officer Jon Kemp.
The company said the new line is designed to support advanced semiconductor nodes, where chip production requires more CMP processing steps.
State and local officials, including Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the facility’s opening.
“Qnity is doing just that, which means more jobs and more opportunity,” Meyer said, referring to semiconductor manufacturing growth in the state.
The company said the expansion is intended to support increasing global demand for semiconductor materials as the industry continues to scale production.
