Qlik Joins AWS Sovereign Cloud Push as Europe Tightens Data Control Rules

PHILADELPHIA, PAQlik is positioning itself at the center of Europe’s intensifying push for data sovereignty, announcing it will serve as a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a new independent cloud infrastructure set to debut in Germany by the end of 2025.

The data and analytics company said its Qlik Cloud platform will be available on the new AWS environment, giving European organizations access to analytics and artificial intelligence tools while keeping data fully resident within the European Union. The move targets governments and regulated industries facing mounting pressure to balance AI adoption with strict requirements around data control, operational autonomy, and regulatory compliance.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will be built and operated entirely within the EU, with day-to-day operations, technical support, and data center access restricted to AWS employees residing in the region. AWS has said the cloud will operate independently from its existing regions, backed by dedicated legal protections and technical controls designed to meet European sovereignty expectations.

Qlik said its role as a launch partner allows it to extend governed analytics and AI capabilities into that environment without compromising security or performance. Chief Executive Officer Mike Capone said the strategy is aimed at organizations that want to deploy AI at scale while avoiding data lock-in and maintaining compliance with EU regulations.

Under the sovereign deployment, Qlik Cloud operations, customer support, and service management will be handled by Qlik employees based in the EU. Customers will also have access to Qlik’s customer-managed encryption key feature, allowing organizations to align data access and key management with internal governance policies and EU guidelines.

The announcement builds on Qlik’s broader European compliance strategy. The company recently launched a dedicated France region on AWS to support French data residency requirements and said it is expanding certifications and controls across Europe. Planned milestones include BSI C5 compliance in Germany by early 2026, alignment with NIS2, HDS, and ACN requirements across multiple countries in 2026, and certification under ISO standards for AI management systems and quality management.

Qlik said its European sovereign deployment of Qlik Cloud on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is expected to be available in 2026, as enterprises across the region accelerate investment in AI while navigating a more restrictive regulatory landscape.
