Post & Schell Names New COO as Longtime Leader Retires After Four-Decade Tenure

PHILADELPHIA, PAPost & Schell, P.C. appointed Jessica McHugh as chief operating officer, marking a significant leadership transition as current COO Stephen A. Schell, Jr. prepares to retire after 42 years with the firm.

Schell has been central to the firm’s operational growth, overseeing expansions in service delivery, infrastructure and firmwide collaboration. Post & Schell leadership credited him with helping shape a culture of innovation and steady strategic advancement throughout his tenure.

“We are deeply grateful to Steve for his exceptional leadership, dedication, and friendship,” said A. James Johnston, the firm’s president and CEO. He said McHugh’s experience will help guide the next phase of the firm’s evolution as it adapts to changing client needs and new operational demands.

McHugh brings nearly 20 years of legal and operational experience, spanning private practice, senior in-house counsel roles at a major e-commerce company, and leadership in legal operations. Most recently, she served as director of practice management for Ballard Spahr’s intellectual property department, where she focused on operational strategy and technology-driven process improvements.

In her new role, McHugh will oversee operations, technology and administrative functions across the firm. She said she is “honored to join Post & Schell at such a pivotal moment” and looks forward to building on the firm’s long-established foundation.
