PHILADELPHIA, PA — Fresh off a second-place win at The Great American Pizza Challenge, South Philadelphia pizzaiolo Davide Lubrano Lavadera is bringing his acclaimed dessert creation home — and offering it to the public for the very first time.
Beginning Friday, November 28, Pizzata Pizzeria & Birreria on East Passyunk Avenue will serve the star-shaped dessert pie that earned Lubrano national recognition in Columbus, Ohio. The limited offering will be available for dine-in from noon to 10 p.m., with reservations preferred but walk-ins welcome. Pickup inquiries can be made by calling the shop directly.
The intricately crafted pizza — priced at $16 and limited to one per table — features a stuffed crust filled with raspberries and pastry cream. The pie itself is topped with raspberries, blueberries, additional pastry cream, Sicilian crushed pistachios, toasted coconut flakes, mixed berry coulis, sea salt flakes, organic mint, a mist of Sicilian lemon–infused oil, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Lubrano’s latest accolade adds to a growing list of competition successes. Earlier this year, he was named a World Pizza Champion in Las Vegas for his Roman al taglio pie, competing against top pizza makers from around the world. The achievement made Pizzata Pizzeria the first shop to boast two champions — co-owner Vinny Gallagher earned a title at the same event in 2019.
Both Pizzata locations are preparing to add Roman-style pizzas to their soon-to-launch new menus, expanding on a tradition that began when Lubrano and Gallagher first met as competitors.
Pizzata Pizzeria & Birreria is located at 1700 East Passyunk Avenue. More information is available at pizzatapizzeria.com.
