PHILADELPHIA, PAPhilly AIDS Thrift is celebrating a landmark achievement after surpassing $5 million in donations to more than 50 HIV/AIDS service organizations across the Greater Philadelphia region. To mark the occasion, the beloved community-driven thrift store will host its 20th Anniversary Block Party on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from Noon to 6 p.m. on the 700 block of South 5th Street.

Two Decades of Giving Back

Founded in 2005 by a group of longtime AIDS activists and thrift lovers, Philly AIDS Thrift has grown from a small, unheated storefront into a cornerstone of community support. Over the years, it has provided funding for prevention, outreach, education, and care programs, with the most recent grants totaling $358,085 awarded to 34 local organizations.

We are extremely excited to reach 20 years and to have raised more than $5 million for crucial programs focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support,” said Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Philly AIDS Thrift. “I am incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built with our shoppers, donors, volunteers, and the organizations we support.”

More than 1,000 attendees are expected this year, continuing a tradition that has become one of the city’s most anticipated community events.

Supporting Vital Services

Since launching its Grant Program in 2014, Philly AIDS Thrift has awarded over 200 grants to local nonprofits. Beneficiaries of this funding include organizations such as Action Wellness, The Attic Youth Center, Mazzoni Center, Planned Parenthood, William Way LGBT Community Center, and MANNA, among many others.

This year’s celebration also doubles as the kickoff to Halloween season, one of the busiest times for Philly AIDS Thrift, which has become a go-to destination for costumes and décor.

With two decades of impact behind it, the organization shows no signs of slowing down in its mission to turn secondhand treasures into life-saving funding for communities across the Delaware Valley.
