PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a holiday season with no major Grinch events elsewhere in the city, The Shops at Liberty Place is seizing the spotlight with a two-day charity event pairing the Grinch with Santa Claus — and putting Morris Animal Refuge at the center of the celebration.
The popular “Selfies for a Cause” fundraiser returns December 6 and 13, offering visitors the chance to snap photos with the mischievous-and-merry duo inside the Rotunda at 1625 Chestnut Street. A $10 donation benefits Morris Animal Refuge, America’s oldest animal shelter, with The Shops at Liberty Place pledging to match contributions up to $1,500 per day. The event is dog-friendly, though limited to pups only.
The backdrop is one of Philadelphia’s most striking holiday displays: a 45-foot indoor Christmas tree, illuminated with more than 33,000 lights and decorated with over 1,500 ornaments — some reaching five feet in length. Organizers expect a strong turnout and recommend arriving before 4 p.m., as the event is first come, first served.
The event highlights a broader seasonal lineup at The Shops at Liberty Place. Free holiday concerts feature a student ensemble from Irvington Union Free School District High School on December 16. A series of “Holiday Gift-Aways,” running November 28 through December 20, will offer pop-up giveaways via Instagram to help shoppers stretch their budgets.
Visitors can also explore the center’s mix of retailers and eateries, including Bloomingdale’s The Outlet Store, Bath & Body Works, Chipotle, Saxbys, The Pierogi Place, and a newly added Puttshack, the venue’s tech-driven mini golf and dining experience.
Morris Animal Refuge, founded in 1874, continues its mission to care for homeless and neglected animals across the Philadelphia region. Organizers say the event helps raise both funds and awareness for the shelter at a time when demand for services remains high.
