PHILADELPHIA, PA — This winter, Arden Children’s Theatre will transport audiences through time and space with a new stage adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, opening December 3 at the Arden Theatre Company’s F. Otto Haas Stage in Old City. Adapted by John Glore and directed by Philadelphia-based Rebecca Wright, the production reimagines Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved 1962 novel for a new generation of theatergoers.
The show follows Meg Murry, played by Mersha Wambua, a determined young girl who embarks on an interdimensional quest to rescue her missing father. Joined by her brother Charles Wallace (Jayson Brown) and their friend Calvin (Daniel Burgess), Meg is guided by three mysterious celestial beings—Mrs. Whatsit (Doug Hara), Mrs. Who (Julianna Zinkel), and Mrs. Which (Steven Anthony Wright)—as they battle cosmic darkness with courage, intellect, and love.
“This story reminds us that imagination and love are boundless,” said director Wright. “It’s about kids saving their parents, finding bravery in unexpected places, and recognizing that the real triumph in this story is love.”
The production features a creative team that includes scenic designer Sasha Jin Schwartz, lighting designer Maria Shaplin, costume designer Nikki Delhomme, sound designer Mel Hsu, and stage manager Lyndsey Connolly. The same team previously collaborated on The Hobbit, which earned a Barrymore Award for Outstanding Costumes.
Performances run through January 25, 2026, with tickets starting at $32. The Arden Theatre will also offer accessibility options such as assistive listening devices, smart caption glasses, and ASL shadow interpretation performances on January 15 and 17.
Founded in 1988, Arden Theatre Company has become one of Philadelphia’s leading professional theaters, known for bringing great stories to life both on stage and in the classroom. A Wrinkle in Time continues that tradition, offering families an imaginative, heartfelt story that explores courage, family, and the enduring power of love.
