PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Eagles and the Eagles Autism Foundation are partnering with the Cobbs Creek Foundation and TGR Foundation to fund and create a sensory-friendly wellness room for neurodiverse students at the Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab in West Philadelphia, the organizations announced Wednesday.
The room will serve students participating in educational programming at the Learning Lab, which opened in April 2025 on the grounds of the Cobbs Creek Golf and Education Campus.
According to the release, the space will be designed as a quiet, sensory-friendly environment equipped with specialized resources intended to support students with sensory challenges.
“Sensory rooms play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive, accessible environment for everyone,” Ryan Hammond, executive director of the Eagles Autism Foundation, said in a statement. He said the foundation is committed to supporting experiences that serve the neurodiverse community and thanked the Cobbs Creek Foundation, which he described as a community grant recipient.
Jeff Shanahan, president of the Cobbs Creek Foundation, said the wellness room will provide a calm space for students with diverse learning needs.
Meredith Foote, executive director of TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia, said the partnership will help bring the space to life for local students.
The Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab offers free, year-round educational programming for students in grades 1 through 12, including science, technology, engineering, arts and math courses, tutoring, college preparation and career-connected learning experiences.
The Learning Lab is part of the broader Cobbs Creek Golf and Education Campus, a redevelopment of the historic public golf course led by the Cobbs Creek Foundation in partnership with the city.
The Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek, which includes a driving range, pro shop and restaurant, opened in December, according to the release. The Q School, a nine-hole short course designed by TGR Design, is scheduled to open to the public in 2026.
The campus is expected to continue opening in phases, with an 18-hole championship course set to reopen in 2027 and the nine-hole Karakung course planned for 2028.
