PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Rothman Opioid Foundation invites medical professionals, students, policymakers, and researchers to attend its upcoming symposium, “Medical Cannabis: What Do We Know & What Do We Not?” on November 8, 2025. The event will be held at the Bluemle Life Science Building at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, 223 S. 10th St, Philadelphia, PA, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The symposium is chaired by Ruth Charbonneau, RN, JD, the Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp’s Associate Director at Thomas Jefferson University; Ari Greis, DO, director of the Medical Cannabis Department at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and Senior Fellow in the Institute of Emerging Health Professions and the Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp; and Dr. Asif Ilyas, President of the Rothman Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education. A special guest, former Philadelphia Eagles player Todd Herremans, will also be featured during the program.
This free symposium offers accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) and gathers expert voices from the Governor’s office, Pennsylvania policymakers, and leading physicians and researchers. The program will cover the latest clinical insights on medical cannabis, examine cannabinoid science and therapeutics, and present evidence-based strategies. Public policy is a major focus, including legislative updates on Pennsylvania’s opioid crisis and urgent issues like xylazine.
Session titles include “Understanding Medical Cannabis from a Clinical Perspective,” “The Cannabinoid Science Landscape: Therapeutic Potential & Risks,” “Where Are We with Cannabis Research,” “Public Policy and Xylazine,” “Cannabis-Impaired Driving & Metrics for Driving,” “Standardized Labeling of Medical Cannabis,” “Opioid Use Disorder & Medical Cannabis,” and “Synthetic Cannabinoids.” There will also be a keynote address on “Medical Cannabis for Pain Management in Sports Medicine.”
