Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Car Veers Onto Sidewalk in Wernersville

WERNERSVILLE, PA — Authorities are investigating a serious pedestrian crash that occurred Friday afternoon in the 100 block of West Penn Avenue, leaving one person hospitalized with major injuries.

According to the South Heidelberg Police Department (SHPD), officers responded at approximately 1:06 p.m. on August 8 after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Investigators determined that a westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes before mounting the sidewalk and hitting the individual.

First responders from Western Berks Fire/EMS, along with SHPD officers, rendered immediate aid at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. The Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting in determining the circumstances surrounding the crash.
