NEW CASTLE, DE — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian late Wednesday night.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2025, at approximately 10:36 p.m., when a 2012 white Nissan Altima traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway struck a pedestrian near 3rd Avenue. Authorities reported the pedestrian, a 50-year-old woman from Annapolis, Maryland, was walking in the roadway outside of the crosswalk and was not wearing reflective clothing or carrying a light. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman from New Castle, DE, was uninjured in the crash.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her family. The highway was partially closed for about two and a half hours while police conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate. Witnesses are urged to contact Master Corporal R. Kunicki at 302-365-8417 or provide information via Delaware Crime Stoppers.
