Overnight Traffic Shift on Route 420 Signals Major Bridge Work Ahead

Traffic Alert

PROSPECT PARK, PA — Drivers in Delaware County should prepare for nighttime slowdowns next week as PennDOT implements a traffic shift on Route 420 (Wanamaker Avenue) tied to a major bridge replacement project over Darby Creek.

PennDOT said lane closures will affect both northbound and southbound Route 420 between Interstate 95 and 4th Avenue from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, beginning Monday, December 15, through Friday, December 19. The overnight restrictions are necessary to reposition traffic as crews advance work on the $36 million project replacing two aging bridges in Prospect Park Borough and Tinicum Township.

Officials warned that backups and delays are likely during the overnight hours and urged motorists to allow additional travel time. All scheduled work is weather dependent.

The bridge replacement project is a key component of PennDOT’s long-term effort to improve safety and reliability along one of the county’s most heavily traveled corridors.

Before heading out at night, motorists are encouraged to check real-time lane closures, detours, and traffic conditions by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center.
