WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that overnight lane closures will take place next week on multiple ramps connecting I-476 and U.S. 1 as part of a $63.7 million resurfacing and bridge repair project.
From Monday, September 15, through Friday, October 3, ramps to both northbound and southbound I-476 and U.S. 1 at the Exit 5 Interchange in Marple Township will be restricted nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. while crews perform bridge superstructure repairs. PennDOT cautioned motorists to expect delays and allow extra time when traveling through the area. All work is weather dependent.
The broader project covers nearly 17 miles of I-476 between the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) in West Conshohocken and I-95 in Ridley Township. Work includes milling and repaving lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 bridges, stabilizing slopes, upgrading stormwater systems, repairing sound walls, and installing new pavement markings, guiderails, and signage.
PennDOT stated the improvements are designed to extend the life of the interstate, improve ride quality, and enhance overall safety.
H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, is serving as the general contractor. The federally funded project is expected to be completed by late 2025.
