No formal detour has been announced. Drivers heading west through Center City should plan extra time, expect slowdowns in the immediate work zone, and consider alternate east-west routes such as Callowhill Street or Spring Garden Street to avoid backups.

The work is part of a broader PennDOT project intended to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists along Vine Street between Eighth Street and Broad Street (Route 611). Planned upgrades include reducing travel lanes from three to two in each direction, upgrading traffic signals, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps, bump-outs, and bike lanes, and milling and repaving the roadway.

C. Abbonizio Contractors Inc., of Sewell, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The $8.5 million project is funded with 100% federal dollars, and construction is expected to finish in summer 2026.
