PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that overnight lane closures will take place next week on northbound Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia as part of a $37.4 million bridge repair initiative.
On Wednesday, September 17, and Thursday, September 18, a single northbound lane will be closed between Packer Avenue and Christian Street from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. PennDOT cautioned that motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. All work is weather dependent.
The project targets high-priority structural repairs to maintain the safety and functionality of critical interstate bridges. Work includes deck resurfacing, steel and concrete superstructure repairs, and substructure improvements such as pedestal reconstruction, bearing replacements, and cleaning of bridge seats. Expansion joints and sealants will also be replaced, while overhead sign structures will be cleaned and repainted.
Additional upgrades include the installation of new LED lighting along the corridor to improve visibility and energy efficiency.
IEW Construction Group, Inc., of Hamilton, New Jersey, is serving as general contractor. The project is funded entirely with federal dollars.
