Overnight Lane Closures on I-476: Major Repairs to Impact Delaware Valley Drivers

Lane restrictions

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that nighttime lane closures will take place next week on I-476 as part of a $63.7 million infrastructure improvement project spanning nearly 17 miles of the interstate between I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Montgomery County and I-95 in Delaware County.

From Sunday, November 9, through Friday, November 14, lane closures will be in effect from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-476 near the Media/Swarthmore Interchange (Exit 3) in Nether Providence Township while crews perform fiber repair work. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, as delays and slowdowns are expected. All work is weather dependent.

The multi-year project includes resurfacing lanes and shoulders in both directions, repairing 49 bridges, stabilizing slopes, improving stormwater management systems, and upgrading guiderails, lighting, and signage. These improvements are designed to enhance safety, extend the interstate’s service life, and improve travel reliability across one of the region’s busiest corridors.

H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, is leading the federally funded project, which represents a major investment in the long-term maintenance of Pennsylvania’s transportation infrastructure.
