WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — PennDOT is pressing forward with overnight bridge repairs and pipe replacement along Interstate 476 this month, warning drivers to expect recurring nighttime lane closures as crews work to extend the life of one of the region’s most heavily traveled highways.

From Monday, February 2, through Friday, February 27, weeknight lane closures will be in effect from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) and I-95 interchanges. The restrictions are part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair, and improve nearly 17 miles of the interstate and its associated ramps and bridges stretching from West Conshohocken Borough in Montgomery County to Ridley Township in Delaware County.

PennDOT said the overnight work will include bridge repairs, pipe replacement, and paving operations. Motorists traveling through the corridor during nighttime hours should expect backups and delays and are urged to allow extra time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Beyond resurfacing travel lanes and shoulders in both directions, the project includes repairs to 49 structures, improvements to 21 stormwater management basins, sound wall repairs, inlet replacements at select locations, and installation of new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, signage, and guiderail. The work is designed to improve ride quality and safety while addressing aging roadside infrastructure and drainage systems in poor condition.

H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, Pennsylvania, is serving as general contractor on the project, which is being financed entirely with federal funds.
