DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that overnight bridge washing will take place next week on U.S. 1 North (Media Bypass) in Middletown and Upper Providence townships, Delaware County. The work is part of routine maintenance aimed at preserving the safety and longevity of the roadway’s bridges.
From Sunday, November 16, through Friday, November 21, U.S. 1 North will be closed nightly between Baltimore Pike and Route 252 (Providence Road) from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. During the closures, motorists will be directed to follow a detour using Baltimore Pike and Route 252. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area. All work is weather dependent.
Bridge washing is a preventive measure that removes debris, salt, and grime that can accelerate deterioration of structural components. PennDOT conducts this maintenance regularly across key corridors to extend bridge lifespans and improve roadway safety.
