Opyn Health Acquires AI Innovator Empara to Simplify Healthcare Access

Business News

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Opyn Health, Inc. has acquired Empara, an AI-led benefits engagement and administration platform, in a move designed to reshape how self-funded insurance plans manage and deliver healthcare access.

The acquisition strengthens Opyn’s mission to simplify healthcare by merging Empara’s intelligent engagement tools and member-facing app with Opyn’s extensive data capabilities and product portfolio. The result, company leaders say, will be a unified digital experience for members and more efficient operations for administrators.

“There is a digital deficit in the self-funded insurance market; administrative systems are redundant and antiquated, and the number of solutions and portals is confusing for members,” said Richard Fuchs, CEO and board chair at Opyn. “By combining Opyn’s member solutions with Empara’s intelligent engagement and administration platform, we are creating a single, intuitive access point for healthcare that saves time and money for members, plans, and administrators.”

The integration will give members a single, AI-driven interface to manage their benefits, claims, and care navigation, while administrators gain a streamlined, scalable system that reduces manual tasks and operational costs.

“Joining Opyn gives us the chance to do something more impactful than either of us could do alone,” said Markus Waite, President of Empara. “Together, we’re creating a more connected healthcare experience that empowers people to take control of their benefits. This is about building a tech-enabled future where clarity, access, and trust replace the complexity that has long burdened the system.”

The combined company will target third-party administrators, brokers, and self-insured employers, as well as professional employer organizations (PEOs) and minimum essential coverage (MEC) plans.

Empara, founded within the Goodroot community of healthcare startups, brings a strong pedigree in AI development aimed at affordability and accessibility. Founders Markus Waite, Ben Callaghan, and Mike Nigels will join Opyn Health to help scale its technology and leverage Opyn’s rich pricing and digital health data to drive innovation across the healthcare ecosystem.
