PHILADELPHIA, PAPhiladelphia Theatre Company is bringing a burst of rhythm, color, and culture to the Avenue of the Arts this winter with Havana Hop, a high-energy, family-friendly production created and performed by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Paige Hernandez. The show runs for one weekend only, January 17 and 18, 2026, at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre.

PTC, now in its 51st season, describes the production as an interactive celebration of movement, music, and identity — crafted to welcome and energize young audiences. Hernandez, known nationally for blending theatre, hip-hop, dance, and education, performs the one-woman show she wrote and choreographed, portraying three generations of spirited women in a story that encourages children to embrace their roots and find their voice.

The performance follows Young Yeila, a girl with big dreams and bigger stage fright, who travels from Washington, D.C., to Cuba to uncover her heritage and build the confidence she needs to shine. Mixing hip-hop, salsa, storytelling, and audience participation, Havana Hop invites children to move, dance, and respond freely throughout the show.

“It’s a celebration of identity and imagination, told through a performance that radiates warmth and inclusivity,” said PTC Co-Artistic Director Tyler Dobrowsky. “This is the kind of theater that connects kids, families, and communities.”

The production features original music by Nick “Nick tha 1da” Hernandez and Kris Funn and is directed by Danielle Drakes, who has collaborated with Hernandez on other nationally touring solo works. In addition to public performances, PTC will host five school-day presentations of Paige in Full, Hernandez’s multimedia hip-hop show for high school audiences.

Founded in 1974, PTC remains a key player in Philadelphia’s arts landscape, premiering new works and engaging the community through civic and educational programming.
