Oat Foundry Launches Chroma Flap Kinetic Wall for Architectural Design

Oat Foundry

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Oat Foundry announced the launch of Chroma Flap, a modular kinetic wall installation designed for architects and interior designers to create animated, color-based displays within commercial and public spaces.

The installation uses mechanical flipping elements to produce changing patterns, gradients, images, and data visualizations across a three-dimensional wall surface, the company said.

Chroma Flap is based on the same mechanical movement used in Oat Foundry’s split-flap displays, commonly associated with transportation boards and analog signage.

According to the company, the system is designed for installation in environments such as building lobbies, airports, train stations, cultural institutions, and other public or commercial interiors.

The installation operates using the company’s content management platform, Portal, which allows users to upload images, brand assets, or data visualizations that are converted into pixel-style animations across the wall.

Users can also schedule different visual displays throughout the day to match changes in activity within a space, the company said.

Engineering Project Manager Zach Wallace said the installation is intended to create a visual focal point in high-traffic environments.

“A lobby, a train station, an airport—all can be bland spaces we forget quickly,” Wallace said. “Chroma Flap creates a memorable experience that leaves a lasting impression.”

The modular system can be configured in multiple sizes and layouts and can be recessed into walls, surface-mounted, or integrated into custom architectural framing.

According to the company, the system can also connect to external data sources through an application programming interface to generate visualizations.

Oat Foundry said the installation is engineered and manufactured at its Philadelphia headquarters.

The company produces kinetic architectural installations and analog signage systems and has previously delivered custom displays for clients including Gensler, Google, Samsung, Netflix, Nike, Starbucks, and Nespresso.
