WILMINGTON, DE — NRx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: NRXP) announced it has appointed Joshua C. Brown, MD, PhD, as chief medical innovation officer to support the company’s development of treatments for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Brown is a psychiatrist, neurologist, and neuroscientist who studies the mechanisms of transcranial magnetic stimulation, a therapy used to treat certain neurological and psychiatric conditions.

He currently serves as medical director of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Service at McLean Hospital and directs the Brain Stimulation Mechanisms Laboratory.

In addition, he serves as president of the Clinical TMS Society and editor-in-chief of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation journal.

NRx said Brown will help advance research involving transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with neuroplastic medications.

His research has focused on using the therapy to treat depression and PTSD, including work funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

The company said Brown will collaborate with Dennis McBride, PhD, NRx’s chief strategy officer, on efforts related to treatments for military personnel, veterans, and first responders.

NRx has filed an investigational new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to test a treatment approach combining ketamine, transcranial magnetic stimulation, hyperbaric oxygen, and the company’s drug candidate NRX-101.
