JENKINTOWN, PA — National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) awarded $6.61 billion in donor-advised fund grants in Fiscal Year 2025, marking significant year-over-year growth in both the value and volume of charitable giving as donors expanded support across U.S. and international nonprofits.
NPT said grant value rose 20% compared with FY 2024, while grant volume increased 25%. In total, 161,515 grants were distributed to 48,685 charitable organizations across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 67 other countries.
Holly Welch Stubbing, NPT’s president and chief executive officer, said donor generosity reached record levels and continues to play a vital role in sustaining nonprofits worldwide. She said the upward trend is expected to continue into 2026 as donors respond to ongoing community needs and support emerging innovations aimed at strengthening social impact.
Unrestricted grants — often considered the most flexible and valuable form of nonprofit funding — accounted for two-thirds of all NPT donor-recommended grants, a 72% jump over the previous year. Environmental and animal-related giving rose 41%, while health-sector grants increased 39%.
NPT reported year-over-year growth across all eight of its charitable fields of interest, including arts and culture, education, environment and animals, health, human services, international causes, religion, and public and societal benefit. International grantmaking grew sharply, with $439 million awarded to organizations outside the United States — a 25% increase — and 1,242 international grants recommended, up 428% from FY 2024.
The results reflect activity from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, a period NPT described as one of expanding global philanthropic engagement and heightened donor commitment across diverse issue areas.
