PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists traveling along I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) should prepare for weeknight lane closures as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) continues work on a $37.9 million resurfacing and rehabilitation project spanning Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County.
From Monday, August 4, through Friday, August 29, lane closures will occur weeknights from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM in both directions between the U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and I-676 interchanges. The overnight work includes line striping and barrier repair aimed at improving roadway safety and durability.
PennDOT warns that significant delays and traffic congestion are likely during the construction hours, and advises motorists to plan additional travel time. Local traffic and emergency access will be maintained, and all activities are subject to weather conditions.
This effort is part of a broader initiative to resurface nearly five miles of I-76, upgrade on-and-off ramps, and repair more than 20 bridges within the corridor.
