UPPER MERION TWP, PA — Drivers who rely on southbound U.S. 202 in Upper Merion Township should brace for renewed nighttime disruptions as utility crews return to a corridor already marked by months of construction and sinkhole repairs.
PA American Water will begin water main installation next week on southbound U.S. 202, also known as Dekalb Pike, as advance work tied to a broader sinkhole remediation effort. The utility work is scheduled to start Monday, January 12, and continue through late February.
From 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM on weeknights, a lane closure will be in place on southbound U.S. 202 between Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road. PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays during overnight hours and urged drivers to allow extra travel time. All work is weather dependent.
The water main installation is being completed ahead of Stage 2 of PennDOT’s sinkhole remediation project, which is expected to begin later this spring. The corridor has already seen significant disruption, with northbound U.S. 202 reopening on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, after eight months of construction to repair and reconstruct the roadway.
The ongoing work is part of a $22.4 million PennDOT project addressing sinkholes along U.S. 202 in Upper Merion Township and Route 29 (Morehall Road) in East Whiteland Township, Chester County — a long-running effort aimed at stabilizing the roadway and preventing future failures.
With overnight lane closures returning to a heavily traveled stretch of Dekalb Pike, motorists are urged to plan ahead and stay informed as conditions change.
