PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers in Northeast Philadelphia should prepare for significant overnight delays next week as PennDOT crews conduct bridge deck repairs on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95, part of a major multiyear reconstruction effort.

The work is scheduled under the $355.3 million I-95 Section BR3 project, which focuses on widening and rebuilding the northbound side of the highway from Wheatsheaf Lane to just north of Margaret Street. PennDOT announced that the southbound repairs are necessary to support ongoing construction in the corridor.

Beginning Monday, December 8, and continuing through Friday, December 12, lane closures will be in place nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Allegheny Avenue interchanges. During these hours, drivers will be directed to exit at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange, follow Aramingo Avenue to Adams Avenue, and reenter I-95 South using the designated ramp.

Officials warn that heavy traffic and extended delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and to use caution when navigating detours and work zones. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
