PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers heading north on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia should prepare for overnight delays this week as PennDOT crews perform construction tied to a major highway reconstruction project.
At A Glance
- Roads Affected: I-95 (Northbound) between the Castor Avenue Interchange and the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange
- Dates: Thursday, March 12 – Friday, March 13
- Times: 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM the following morning
- Reason: Sheet pile installation supporting highway reconstruction
PennDOT said a nighttime lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 while crews install sheet piles—steel supports driven into the ground to stabilize soil and embankments during heavy construction work.
The work supports the ongoing reconstruction of northbound I-95 between Wheatsheaf Lane and Margaret Street, part of PennDOT’s $355.3 million I-95/BR3 project aimed at improving infrastructure along the heavily traveled corridor.
Motorists traveling through the area should plan extra time and expect delays during the overnight work hours. Drivers may want to seek alternate routes when possible to avoid backups approaching the work zone.
PennDOT noted that all scheduled construction activities are weather permitting and could be rescheduled if conditions change.
