PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers heading through one of Philadelphia’s busiest interstate junctions should prepare for overnight disruptions next week as PennDOT conducts geotechnical drilling on southbound Interstate 95 near the I-676 interchange.

PennDOT said the nighttime work is scheduled to take place from Monday, February 9, through Thursday, February 12, weather permitting. During those nights, a lane closure will be in effect on southbound I-95 approaching I-676 from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

Officials warned motorists to expect significant backups and delays during the overnight hours as crews drill into the roadway to assess subsurface conditions. The work is typically performed ahead of major infrastructure improvements and is critical to evaluating soil and foundation conditions beneath the highway.
