NEWARK, DE — The Newark Police Department is investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred late Saturday night on Christina Parkway, leaving one driver deceased and several others hospitalized.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:06 p.m. on November 22, 2025, to the area east of the Amtrak bridge after multiple callers reported a serious crash. One of the involved vehicles had left the roadway and come to rest in a wooded area, with occupants reportedly trapped.
When officers and emergency personnel arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles—a sedan and an SUV—along with three injured individuals. Members of the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics provided medical care at the scene.
Police determined that the SUV had entered the oncoming lane of travel, causing the collision. Two occupants of the sedan were trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by rescue personnel. Both were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. One individual was admitted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains in stable condition, while the second was treated and released for minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV was also transported to a local hospital, where police say the individual later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
The Newark Police Department’s Traffic Response Unit responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation. The University of Delaware Police Department and DelDOT assisted with traffic control, closing Christina Parkway between Elkton Road and South College Avenue for roughly five hours overnight.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Jon Lee at (302) 366-7100 ext. 3462 or jlee@newark.de.us.
Authorities emphasize that all investigative findings at this stage are preliminary and that any suspect, arrestee, or defendant identified in connection with this or any related inquiry is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
