PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists traveling on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) should prepare for overnight delays next week as PennDOT continues a major resurfacing and bridge repair project in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and I-676
- Dates: Monday, March 30, through Thursday, April 2
- Times: 9:00 PM – 4:00 AM (overnight)
- Reason: Resurfacing, ramp work, and bridge repairs under a $41.3 million infrastructure project
Lane closures will be in place in both directions during overnight hours, creating a high likelihood of congestion through one of the region’s busiest corridors. The impacted stretch includes critical connections between City Avenue and Center City, making even nighttime travel potentially slow-moving.
Drivers should plan extra time, expect backups, and consider alternate routes where possible. While no formal detour has been announced, avoiding the Schuylkill Expressway during these hours—especially eastbound toward Center City—may help reduce delays.
This work is part of a broader effort to repair nearly five miles of roadway, ramps, and more than 20 bridges along the corridor, a project that will continue to bring periodic disruptions as it progresses.
