PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight drivers on Interstate 95 should prepare for renewed construction impacts next week as PennDOT continues geotechnical drilling operations near one of the city’s busiest interchanges.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that nighttime drilling will proceed on southbound I-95 approaching the I-676 Interchange from Monday, February 16, through Thursday, February 19.

Weather permitting, a lane closure will be in place each night from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. The restriction affects traffic moving toward the heavily traveled Center City connection, an area that routinely carries high volumes even during off-peak hours.

PennDOT officials cautioned that significant backups and delays will occur as vehicles merge through the narrowed work zone. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, remain alert for construction crews and equipment, and allow additional travel time.

The geotechnical drilling is part of ongoing infrastructure evaluation and planning efforts in the I-95 corridor, a critical artery for regional and interstate commerce.

With multiple construction projects underway across the Philadelphia region, drivers are encouraged to stay informed before heading out.
