LOWER MERION TWP, PA — A critical stretch of the Schuylkill Expressway will narrow overnight next week as PennDOT crews move in to remove trees along westbound Interstate 76 in Montgomery County.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that tree removal operations are scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, on westbound I-76 approaching the Belmont Avenue Interchange (Exit 338) in Lower Merion Township.

Weather permitting, a lane closure will be in place from 7:00 p.m. Tuesday through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday. The overnight restriction is expected to affect motorists traveling through one of the region’s most congested corridors, even during evening hours.

PennDOT officials warned that backups and delays will occur as traffic merges through the narrowed work zone. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, remain alert for crews and equipment, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted if conditions warrant.

With ongoing construction and maintenance projects continuing across Montgomery and Chester counties, motorists are encouraged to stay informed before heading out.
