Night Lane Closure Scheduled on I-76 East in Philadelphia

Lane closures

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight drivers on the Schuylkill Expressway should prepare for delays next week as PennDOT crews conduct repairs to critical traffic management systems along one of the region’s most congested corridors.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that Intelligent Transportation Systems repairs are scheduled Tuesday, February 17, and Wednesday, February 18, on eastbound Interstate 76.

Weather permitting, a right lane closure will be in place from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning between the Montgomery Drive (Exit 341) and Spring Garden Street (Exit 343) interchanges. The affected stretch runs through a high-volume section of the expressway that often sees steady traffic even during nighttime hours.

PennDOT officials warn that backups and delays will occur as vehicles merge through the narrowed work zone. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, remain alert for construction crews, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Intelligent Transportation Systems support traffic monitoring, incident response, and real-time roadway messaging across the I-76 corridor. Maintaining these systems is essential to managing congestion and improving safety along the heavily traveled expressway.

All scheduled activities are weather permitting and may be adjusted if conditions warrant.
