- Reason: Road construction tied to Interstate 476 interchange improvements
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a nighttime lane closure will be in place on eastbound West Chester Pike while crews conduct construction activities near the Interstate 476 interchange.
Motorists traveling through Marple and Haverford townships during the overnight work hours should plan extra time and expect delays as traffic moves through the restricted work zone.
The construction is part of a $5.2 million project designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion near the Interstate 476 interchange along the Route 3 corridor.
Planned improvements include changes to ramp traffic patterns near South Lawrence Road that will allow the westbound Route 3 off-ramp to the northbound I-476 on-ramp to operate without signal control, creating a free-flowing lane. Crews will also restripe the northbound I-476 on-ramp and construct a new channelized right-turn lane at the intersection of West Chester Pike and the northbound I-476 ramp to better accommodate traffic coming from South Lawrence Road.
Additional work includes installing a new overhead lane designation sign along westbound West Chester Pike east of North Lawrence Road and evaluating pedestrian facilities and curb ramps along the corridor to ensure compliance with current accessibility standards.
PennDOT noted that all scheduled activities are weather dependent and could be rescheduled if conditions require.
