PHILADELPHIA, PA — Newsroom Philly, a hidden Japanese fusion speakeasy, has officially opened its doors at 1102 Germantown Avenue, welcoming Philadelphians to an elevated dining and entertainment experience unlike any other. Brought to the city by Rose Hospitality, the concept features the culinary expertise of world-renowned Chef Nobu Hamazaki and combines immersive design, inventive cuisine, and dynamic live performances.

Entry to the speakeasy is found discreetly through a vintage Diet 7UP vending machine nestled along Germantown Avenue, setting the tone for an evening of intrigue. Inside, guests discover a stunning space where thousands of upcycled books line floor-to-ceiling shelves, while dramatic artwork, including a hand-painted geisha and a glowing Japanese sunset, accentuates the library-inspired ambiance.

Chef Nobu Hamazaki, celebrated for his Japanese-Latin fusion cuisine and international culinary career, leads the kitchen. Signature dishes include wagyu gyoza, yellowtail tiradito, spicy tuna crispy rice, and the Newsroom Roll, a luxurious creation featuring seared wagyu, avocado, and truffle salt. Large plates, like the Churrasco Steak with herb chimichurri and Whole Fried Branzino with coconut curry sauce, round out the menu alongside classic and signature sushi rolls.

“Newsroom Philly brings together the best elements of elevated dining, storytelling, and cultural homage,” said a Rose Hospitality representative.

The bar program matches the sophistication of the cuisine, offering handcrafted cocktails designed to enhance both flavor and presentation. Highlights include The Front Page, a vodka-based cocktail infused with matcha and edible flowers, and The Interview, a mezcal creation with coconut milk and orange blossom water. Guests can also enjoy large-format options like the Editor’s Punch, designed to serve four.

Entertainment takes center stage in this intimate setting, with nightly performances complementing the dining experience. From circus aerialists and live musicians to DJs and jazz singers, the lineup promises something special every evening.

Operating hours start Thursday through Sunday, with dinner service and plans to expand to brunch later this summer. Thursdays feature Martini Night with $10 martinis, including classic and creative options like lychee and espresso. Reservations are highly recommended due to the intimate 60-seat capacity and are available on OpenTable and Resy.

Newsroom Philly’s opening marks the first expansion of this acclaimed speakeasy concept outside of New York City. With its distinctive entrance, Chef Nobu’s innovative cuisine, and an atmosphere that merges art and design, the venue promises to set a new standard in Philadelphia’s vibrant dining scene.
