CHESTER, PA — A community organization credited with helping Chester reach a historic milestone of zero gun-violence deaths in 2025 received a major upgrade this weekend, as corporate partners and city leaders rallied behind its expanded headquarters.

Power Home Remodeling and window manufacturer Pella teamed up to donate and install 62 new windows at the newly acquired headquarters of Making a Change Group, a Chester-based nonprofit focused on youth intervention, family support, and community stabilization. The renovation took place Friday and Saturday at the group’s new facility at 400 East 21st Street, a corner property recently acquired from Widener University.

Chester Mayor Stefan Roots visited the site on Friday, thanking the organization and its partners for investing directly in the neighborhoods they serve. City officials said organizations like Making a Change Group have played a critical role in reversing years of violence and instability, helping the city record zero gun-violence deaths in 2025.

Power Home Remodeling, which is headquartered in Chester, carried out the installation through its Community Impact Division, Power for Good, in partnership with Pella, which operates a manufacturing facility in Gettysburg. The companies said the project reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the communities where they live and work.

“We want to make sure that we can do what we can to help those that are right outside of our doors,” said Jim Myers, director of community impact at Power Home Remodeling. Myers said that after visiting the nonprofit’s new space, it was clear the building needed upgrades that matched its mission and long-term potential.

Pella leaders echoed that sentiment, framing the project as part of a broader effort to invest in local communities.

“Pella Corporation prides itself on having a positive impact in the communities we serve across the country, so we were thrilled to partner with Power Home Remodeling on such a meaningful project in their local Chester, PA community,” said Shawn Huyser, director of channel sales at Pella Corporation.

Making a Change Group was founded by Corey Long, a Chester native who said his experiences growing up amid violence shaped his vision for the organization. The nonprofit provides wraparound services aimed at giving young people and families access to resources, stability, and opportunity while remaining rooted in the city it serves.

City leaders said the expanded headquarters will allow the organization to grow its programming at a time when Chester is seeing tangible results from sustained community-based intervention.

The installation wrapped up Saturday, marking what participants described as both a physical renovation and a symbolic investment in Chester’s continued turnaround.
