WILMINGTON, DE — The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington is ushering in a new era of leadership in its communications office, with Bishop William E. Koenig appointing Hannah R. Dell as the diocese’s next Director of the Office of Communications.

Dell will assume the role effective January 16, 2025, succeeding Robert G. Krebs, who is retiring after 25 years overseeing diocesan communications.

A graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, Dell holds a degree in sociology and brings more than a decade of national church communications experience to the diocese. Since 2012, she has served in several key roles with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, most recently as Liaison for Diocesan Communications.

In that position, Dell acted as the primary point of contact for more than 150 diocesan communications offices nationwide. Her responsibilities included supervising editorial strategy and content direction for the USCCB homepage, managing social media platforms, providing media and logistical support for major national events, and launching an ongoing video interview series with U.S. bishops aimed at strengthening digital evangelization. She also has conversational proficiency in Spanish and basic knowledge of Italian.

Bishop Koenig said the diocese is gaining a seasoned professional at a pivotal moment for the Church.

“We are excited to welcome Hannah Dell to our diocesan team,” Koenig said. “We are blessed to have a Catholic communications professional of Hannah’s caliber joining us in service to the Catholic community in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore and look forward to the ways that her experience at the USCCB and her service to the Church in the United States will build upon the diocesan communication initiatives that have been so capably led over the last 25 years by her predecessor, Bob Krebs.”

Dell said she is eager to take on the role and help tell the story of the Church across the region.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Diocese of Wilmington as Communications Director,” she said. “At a time when there is renewed energy and hope across the Church following our Jubilee Year, sparked in part by the bold witness and pastoral vision of Pope Leo, I’m thrilled to help share the stories of how the Catholic faith is alive and growing in the communities of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.”

She said she looks forward to working closely with Bishop Koenig and The Dialog staff to highlight the work of parishes, schools, and ministries throughout the diocese.

Dell’s appointment marks a significant transition for the Diocese of Wilmington, which serves Catholics across Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore, as it builds on a quarter-century of communications leadership while positioning itself for an increasingly digital and connected future.
