BENSALEM, PA — The National Thoroughbred League (NTL) continued its record-setting 2025 campaign with a landmark event at Parx Racing last Sunday. The Philadelphia Cup, hosted by the city’s own Philadelphia Stallions, drew over 6,000 fans despite chilly, rainy weather. The turnout marked the highest attendance in NTL history while also driving a $1.55 million daily handle, representing a 65% surge over last year’s Father’s Day card at Parx.
“The mission of the NTL has always been to turn horse racing into a major-league, fan-focused team sport,” said Randall Lane, NTL co-founder. “The fact that 6,000 people came out on a cold, rainy day demonstrates the power and resiliency of this concept.”
The California Shamrocks claimed victory in the Philadelphia Cup in a nail-biting finish, thanks to a surge in the final race. The top four teams were separated by just two points, showcasing how competitive the league has become as it reaches the midpoint of its third season. Meanwhile, the New York Knights maintain their overall lead in the standings.
The event, a testament to the league’s “NTL Effect,” featured an exciting blend of racing, music, and family-friendly entertainment. Among the notable attendees were Julius “Dr. J” Erving, co-owner of the Philadelphia Stallions; Philadelphia Eagles legends Seth Joyner and Hollis Thomas; Hall of Fame jockey Jose Santos; and Jarobi White of A Tribe Called Quest. Fans enjoyed live musical acts, a VIP section, celebrity meet-and-greets, and special activities for younger attendees, including pony rides.
The NTL, known for elevating the sport with its innovative, team-based approach, shifts its focus to its next stop in St. Louis on July 19. There, the league will aim to continue its streak of growing crowds and increased wagering, further solidifying its status as one of horse racing’s most exciting new ventures.
