WALLINGFORD, PA — Nether Providence Police are investigating an unusual incident after a homeowner reported that a large sum of cash was deposited into her mailbox by an unidentified man late Friday morning. Police say they are working to determine whether the encounter reflects a misunderstanding, an attempted delivery, or another circumstance yet to be identified.
According to investigators, the homeowner on the 300 block of South Providence Road contacted authorities shortly before 11 a.m. on December 6 after observing a balding white man pacing outside her property for an extended period. The man was described as between 20 and 30 years old, roughly 5 feet 8 inches tall, and wearing a black puffer jacket. She told police the individual eventually opened her mailbox, placed an item inside, and walked away in an unknown direction.
When she checked the mailbox, the homeowner discovered a significant amount of cash. She immediately reported the matter, noting that while the incident seemed unusual, she was not entirely surprised given the history of the property, which previously operated as a psychiatrist’s office. She told officers she believed the man may have been a former patient unaware that the practice had relocated.
Police have not alleged wrongdoing by the unidentified individual but say the circumstances remain unclear, and detectives are attempting to determine why the cash was left and whether it was intended for someone else. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the person involved or the purpose of the cash drop to contact the department.
Individuals with information are asked to call the Nether Providence Police Department at 610-892-2875 or dial 911 as the investigation continues.
